The “100 Miles Port Grimaud” race had a bit of everything! The weather forecast didn’t look too promising – light winds followed by light winds prompting the Race Committee to consider a very short course. In the end they picked the longest one, perhaps disbelieving Meteo France? This was a high quality fleet – well prepared race boats, including the Med Champion, oh and us.After the start off Port Grimaud, passing St. Tropez and in building breeze to round the Lion de Mer. With the larger boats now ahead of us, and in a stiff 23 knot breeze, we had the perfect sail, our big heavy aysm spinnaker. Up it went and we passed boat after boat in a thrilling ride all the way to a large wind hole. It took several hours to cross this hole, still ahead of much of the fleet, and then slowly make our way to the Poquerolles Island , arriving at midnight. By now there was no breeze – by dawn we’d moved 6 painful miles! The morning was spent coaxing the boat along in the light conditions, until by midday the new breeze arrived and we started being able to use spinnakers again, passed St. Tropez once more and to the finish. 1 day 3 hours for the race, and as results were announced 2nd in our class. Very pleased with the result and the points towards the 2022 Med Championship. We’ll be back next year for this one…
